Six Months

I haven’t posted any updates in a while but I’m not dead. Other than feeling a little tired now that I’m working more, I’m still managing to jump back into things. I tried to get back into running a little while back, but hit a wall (figuratively…) and really struggled to get more than a few hundred metres. So I’ve settled for walking more frequently and will give interval training a go in a couple of weeks. Why can’t I just will myself fit?
I did start doing Picture (2)some more kayaking recently though, and even joined a group of transplant athletes for a paddle along the Brisbane River the other weekend. It was great to meet some of the Australian team going to Spain for the world games next month. Also, hearing stories of people who have been living a healthy life for a decade or two since their transplant is pretty inspiring. I’m really looking forward to going to a few more of these transplant events and hearing what others have been through. It’s amazing how welcoming everyone in the transplant community is and how grateful they are to have gone through what they have. Every transplant recipient I’ve spoken to thinks of it as an absolute gift that they are where they are.
So anyway, for 6 months post-transplant I’m doing great! I’m as healthy as I’ve ever been and I cannot tell you how good it feels to have people tell me my face is fat! No joke, the greatest compliment right now. In December last year today felt achingly far away, but here I am riding motorbikes and falling off skateboards. Quarter-life crisis or not, things just…get better.
